Character and Attitude

I wanted to share something that happened after a tournament that is more important and extends beyond the game. Our 13u Grimes team were not having the game they hoped for. After going 2-0 in pool play they entered the bracket as the 2 seed. The game didn’t go according to plan. They got down big and showed heart and grit till the end.

After the game, the field umpire came to the team during the coach’s brief and commended our boys for their attitude, behavior, and class even when things seemed out of hand. Evidently there were comments and behaviors from the other players on the opposing team the umpire had to step in and resolve.

It makes me proud to have a group of young men that root for each other, win with class, lose with class, and keep a good head on their shoulders no matter the circumstances. That attitude will take them places in life! To see it in 13 year olds is refreshing and a testament to our parents, community, and coaches.

It was great to see that character still matters to people. The affirmation from an official makes me so proud and honored to be a part of our 706 organization that teaches values and the game to our local players and we do our best to do it the right way.
