Does your pitcher get rattled?

From pitcher Graham Sanders, “Pitching is so mentally tough. Some days you’re on it, some days you aren’t. But those days where you can’t seem to “find it” don’t have to be unsuccessful days on the mound. Coming from a guy who had college ball experience as a pitcher, it wasn’t only about how I could strike every hitter out with a nasty curve. The whole position “pitcher” has a meaning to it. You control the game meaning the pace of the game is almost directly up to you. As someone who struggled with anger management issues on the mound, I learned the hard way that composure is super important. I got benched. I got sent out of the dugout. I got yelled at. All of this because I couldn’t seem to control myself when I wasn’t “pitching perfect that day.” The important lesson here is to make sure you can keep your composure. I had to find my reset for when things weren’t going so well. When I couldn’t locate my fastball in the zone, I would step off the mound, take a deep breath and take a mental reset. Throwing strikes all comes down to the ability to copy your pitching motion exactly. It’s hard, I know. The more you practice it and get into a tempo, the easier it will be to locate your pitches. But this article is about what to do when you can’t seem to find the strike zone with a certain pitch or just in general. Just remember, it’s very important to find a rhythm. Whether it be calling time and stepping off the mound, having something written in your hat to help calm you down, a mental reset and queue should definitely help.”
