Key Performance Indicators

We as a staff want to introduce our pitching philosophies and setting an expectation. We have 5 big key performance indicators for pitchers: Strike Rate (60%), First Pitch Strikes (60%), 5 Pitch At Bats, 15 pitch innings, and walks/HBP. These KPI’s will help us promote a positive result mindset as we develop pitchers at the youth ages approaching high school. It helps them focus on keeping the main thing, the main thing. Below are our 13u and 14u pitching KPI’s from the previous weekend.

Data shows that when our pitchers start a batter with a strike, we have a 65 percent chance of recording an out, but when that first pitch is a ball, the odds drop significantly. Our focus is clear: attack the zone early and often. The MLB average first pitch strike rate in 2025 is 62%, and if we can consistently reach 60% at our level, we are setting the foundation for long term success. A 60% strike rate helps keep pitch counts down, reduces free passes, keeps the defense engaged, and gives us the best chance to stay in competitive games.

Beyond the numbers, these goals are about building confidence and mental toughness. We aim for at bats that end within 5 pitches and innings that stay around 15 pitches, helping our pitchers stay efficient and composed. The mindset must stay consistent no matter the situation. Give up a double or deal with an error, the next pitch still needs to be a strike. Pitchers who attack the zone with conviction and focus on what they can control will continue to grow layer by layer into complete pitchers.

Trust the process, attack early, and pitching without fear, we will continue to raise our standard each weekend.
